Krista and I have been reflecting on the lessons we’ve learned throughout the transformative journey of writing our first book. While there have been many moments of growth and realization, one lesson stands out above all—especially for anyone creating something from the heart:
Do not settle for anything less than your vision!
If you’re in the midst of a creative project—whether it’s a book, a business, or any passion-driven endeavor—you’ll inevitably face moments where things don’t quite align with your inner knowing. There will be distractions, outside opinions, and even self-doubt trying to pull you away from your vision. But your most important job? PROTECT that vision.
The Creative Process Requires Holding Your Vision High
Writing this book has been a constant practice in alignment—staying true to our vision despite inevitable bumps in the road. Our first step was calling in the most aligned book agent, publishing house, and team to help bring this dream to life. We are beyond grateful that we found THE BEST team—people who saw the same big picture we did.But even with an incredible team, there were still moments when we had to fiercely advocate for our vision. Not everyone will fully grasp the unique ideas that live inside of you, and that’s okay. When those moments arise, it’s your responsibility to step up and protect what you know is true.
Trust Your Instincts, Even If It Feels Uncomfortable
During the final stages of creating our book cover, we found ourselves at a crossroads. The initial design wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t right. For a moment, we hesitated—wondering if pushing back would make us seem difficult or “too much.” But then we quickly remembered: this is our vision. How could we settle for anything less?
We wanted the cover to capture the heart of our book and truly speak to our community. So, we asked for revisions. Yes, it felt vulnerable, and yes, it was nerve-wracking—but honoring your vision sometimes requires those uncomfortable moments. And guess what? The final result was exactly what we had envisioned all along.
Creativity Is Fluid—Let Yourself Evolve
If you’re in the process of creating something, remember this: It’s okay to take your time, to push for what feels right, and to trust your instincts—even if that means pivoting or starting over. Creativity is not rigid; it’s fluid. It grows and evolves alongside you.
Trust the process (just like we had to!) and don’t rush just to meet deadlines or expectations. Your ideas are valuable. Give yourself the space to refine them until they feel aligned.
Wherever you are in your creative journey, know this: the journey is just as important as the destination. Trust your intuition, protect your vision, and never settle for anything less than what feels true to you.
You’ve got this!
