In the early days of Almost 30, we were often asked, “What’s next? Are you going to write a book?” And, if we’re being honest, we didn’t have much to say at the time. It wasn’t that we didn’t want to write a book—it just didn’t feel like the time. We were still finding our voices, learning what we were here to do, and most importantly, what our amazing community needed from us.
At that point, we were juggling full-time jobs while building Almost 30. We focused on connecting with all of you through in-person events, our ambassador program, and of course, the podcast. But even as we grew, we couldn’t shake the thought: What could we say that would resonate on a deeper level with the women who were following our journey?
Divine Timing: The Universe Had Other Plans
Fast forward to March 2020. Just before the world shut down, we found ourselves attending Gabby Bernstein’s bestseller masterclass. Gabby’s words gave us the courage to start seriously thinking about writing a book. For a second, it felt like the right time…
But sometimes, the universe has different plans.
Shortly after that masterclass, life and other initiations moved in quick. There was marriage, moves, a divorce, pregnancy, loss, grief, and so much personal transformation. While we had planned to dive into writing our book, life had other plans. Without these hard experiences and the lessons that came with them, the book wouldn’t have the depth and emotional honesty it does.
The Magic Moment: An Unexpected Email
Then, in the fall of 2022, we were going through our inbox when we saw an email that stood out. Intuition pinged—this one was different. It was from a book agent who had taken notice of us, understood our vision, and was eager to help us bring it to life. We took the call, and the rest is history.
Our book agent, Tess, became a key player in this journey. As soon as we met her virtually, we knew she was the one to guide us through the process. Her energy, her understanding of our vision, and her belief in us were exactly what we needed. We jumped into action right away, writing our book proposal over the holidays. It felt like the words were just pouring out of us—so much so that we had no doubt this was the right time.
By February of 2023, after shopping the proposal around, we received six offers from publishers. Six! We couldn’t believe it. It felt like a dream.
From recording early episodes of the podcast on closet floors, sharing our most vulnerable moments, to now being offered a book deal from a major publishing house? To say it was surreal is an understatement.
We chose St. Martin’s Press from Macmillan, and we’ve never looked back. Their excitement for the book matched ours, and we knew they were the team to help us make it happen. When we signed that deal, it was a total tear-jerker moment—one we will never forget.
