show notes

The thing we love the most about our podcast is the incredible community we’ve built around it. #Almost30Nation is everything for us! We’ve met conscious, kind, curious women all over the world, and our listeners have been able to connect with each other. That’s what makes this whole thing so special!

Having a community around your podcast also builds engagement, loyalty, and trust. It’s the differentiator that compels your listeners to recommend your pod to friends.

But our community didn’t just build itself — we put in a lot of care, attention, and intention to make it the fam it is today. Now that we’ve built a community around Almost 30, we want to help guide you through it as well.

Here are some tips on how to build a community around your podcast:

Start an Instagram account

There is no better way to build a community than through social media! Start with a couple channels you feel most comfortable with — we started with Instagram and then added Pinterest. Once you’ve established your presence on Instagram, focus on continuing to grow your reach. Create shareable content, use the Instagram poll or questions feature, do Instagram takeovers and, as always, RESPOND TO EVERY COMMENT AND DM!!

Create Facebook groups

Especially at the beginning of your podcasting journey, one of the most powerful ways to build and tap into community is through Facebook groups. Secret Facebook groups are the way to go — they help people feel safer about getting vulnerable. As the host of the podcast, interact with members of the group on a regular basis. Remember to establish group rules and find a moderator or moderators so you don’t have to actively monitor the group 24/7.

Get yourself out there

Attend all the events and meetups you can, whether in person or virtually. Take note of what you liked at each event so you can incorporate those things into your own in the future. Throw digital workshops or virtual events that are community-oriented. You don’t have to do anything fancy or elaborate; the point is to bring like-minded people together to connect. Start small — we can all say now more than ever that the magic of an event is just talking to people and feeding off each other’s energy.

Involve your audience

Survey your community via email or the Instgram poll feature to see what kinds of content resonates with them. Asking your community to share their experience with a product is also a great way to get people involved, and then you can read their experience on air. We’ve also reached out to other podcasts that align with our mission on crossover episodes, Instagram takeovers, and giveaways, and this gets the audience involved and excited!

At the end of the day, building a community is what it’s all about. You want your audience to feel a direct and personal connection to you!
